New Farmer Web Consultation

Food Secure Canada is holding a web consultation to hear from new farmers and their allies on what they want to see in the government's upcoming Food Policy for Canada. This is an opportunity to share your perspectives and experiences on how the federal government can better support new farmers and build a healthy, just and sustainable food system. A summary report will be drafted from the conversation and submitted directly to Agriculture and Agri-foods Canada as part of their consultation process. A representative from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada may also be invited to join the call.

Consulting on a proposed Agricultural System in the Greater Golden Horseshoe

The Province recently released its four updated provincial land use plans for the Greater Golden Horseshoe as a result of the coordinator review: the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, the Greenbelt Plan, the Niagara Escarpment Plan and the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan. The advisory panel for the coordinated review, chaired by David Crombie, recommended that Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) work with municipalities and stakeholders to develop an Agricultural System across the Greater Golden Horseshoe to support the viability of Ontario’s agri-food sector and protect farmland.

The province will also be hosting a Public House to provide opportunities to learn more and provide input on the proposed Agricultural and Natural Heritage Systems.

The Peterborough Open House will be on September 12th from 6pm - 9pm at Holiday Inn Peterborough -Waterfront -150 George Street, Peterborough
